Staff Writer

The Staff Writer for Institutional Advancement writes proposals, reports, acknowledgement letters, and other letters on behalf of the college President, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, and members of the Board of Trustees, as needed. The incumbent also writes copy for brochures, newsletters, fliers, and other Institutional Advancement fund­raising materials.

Essential Job Functions

  1. Write proposals, reports, letters, and other correspondence as required for fundraising and stewardship purposes, for the College President, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, and members of the Board of Trustees.
  2. Write acknowledgement letters for the College President, Vice President for Institutional Advancement, and members of the Board of Trustees. In doing so, utilize Microsoft Office, Raiser’s Edge, and Perceptive Content
  3. Proofread and copy edit for Institutional Advancement
  4. Print and mail proposals and reports, if necessary.
  5. Write copy for brochures, fliers, newsletters, and other College publications
  6. Enter data as necessary to track College writing and other projects and keep donor information accurate.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required, with appropriate writing experience befitting the needs of the College.

Other Skills

1. Command of English grammar, style, and composition. 2. Proofreading and spelling skills. 3. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and to effectively express ideas orally and in writing 4. Possess good organizational skills. 5. Word Processing and Microsoft Office proficiency. 6. Ability to work well under deadlines with limited supervision.

The office of Institutional Advancement interacts with College staff and the entire Hillsdale audience.  A neat appearance and a pleasant relationship that is supportive of the College mission is essential.  This relationship needs to be pleasant, supportive and professional, while maintaining confidentiality as needed.

The Mission Statement should be considered in all aspects of the position. The teaching of Christian faith shall remain a conspicuous aim of the College.
