Job Summary: The Philanthropy Roundtable’s Grant Writer serves as a grant writer and liaison to a portfolio of current and prospective donors for grant solicitation, acknowledgement, and reporting. This staff member works proactively with the Director of Foundation Relations and other development team staff to meet fundraising goals, grow the number of donors supporting the organization, and increase the amount of financial support the Roundtable receives through grants. This role could be for an entry level person demonstrating exceptional writing and other skills. It could also be for a mid-level person with experience in grant writing ready to take on more responsibility. Mid-level experience candidates may be allowed to work remotely. Salary will be commensurate with experience and skill.

Job Duties:

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Crafting high-quality, compelling, and successful letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and grant reports. The grant writer may create documents using existing language but will also be called upon to synthesize complex information and draft new text about a specific project or program area.
  • Corresponding with individual donors and foundation staff to submit letters of inquiry, grant proposals, and grant reports.
  • Seeking out new opportunities with donors who are aligned with the mission, principles, and giving priorities of the Roundtable.
  • Collaborating with program leaders to plan and execute fundraising strategies for programs and events.
  • Building relationships, where appropriate, with donors to grow their involvement with the Roundtable’s programs and events.
  • Attending Roundtable events, where appropriate, to gain a deeper understanding of the work of the Roundtable and the philanthropists who are involved in the organization.
  • Assisting with copy-writing and editing of development materials, as necessary.
  • Recording activities and interactions with donors in our CRM database.
  • Working with the development coordinator to ensure the accuracy of our records.
  • Participating in the gift acknowledgement process by making calls and/or writing handwritten notes.

Special Skills/Preferences:

  • 0-4 years of experience with demonstrated exceptional writing ability, professional proposal writing experience beneficial
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Passion for The Philanthropy Roundtable’s mission and guiding principles
  • Experience with donor research a plus
  • Experience using a CRM or development database a plus
  • Demonstrable skill in collaborating with a wide array of personality types to complete projects
  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work on several projects at once and to consistently meet tight deadlines
  • Ability to travel, when needed, to meet with donors and attend Roundtable events
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Characteristics of honesty, integrity, confidence, and professionalism
