Director of Marketing

The director of marketing is responsible to promote and support the full mission of HOPE International. In doing so, she or he leads in the development and maintenance of a strong brand identity consistent with the overall mission of the organization. oversees the creation of innovative resources and campaigns that will educate and inspire people to become involved in the work of HOPE International, and serves other organizational departments with key branding and marketing oriented projects.

Reporting to the chief advancement officer and serving as an integral member of the executive team, the director of marketing will lead a dynamic team responsible for HOPE International's brand, marketing, and communication strategies. The director of marketing will oversee the development and implementation of innovative strategies for HOPE International's marketing and communications channels, working with key stakeholders to manage activities that inform, promote, enhance, and protect the organization's Christ-centered reputation. She or he will be responsible for a broad range of promotional activities that support the strategic direction, fundraising efforts and positioning of the organization. The expected outcomes of the work include brand consistency, brand awareness, constituent growth, donor acquisition and retention.

Spiritual integration

  • Ensure a personal, healthy spiritual balance with family, work, and church life by adopting biblically based personal and spiritual disciplines
  • Encourage, lead, and disciple staff in a manner that leads to increasing connectivity with  the mission of HOPE International
  • Ensure the Christ-centered commitment of HOPE International is present and clear in each communication produced


  • Work with marketing team leadership and staff to oversee and direct all marketing strategies to meet goals, including fundraising growth, donor and contact base expansion, and donor retention
  • Oversee HOPE's overall brand and reputation, including through international fundraising and collaboration with operations leaders developing and managing various field-facing brands under the HOPE International umbrella
  • Support the fundraising strategies of all relationship channels requiring marketing department resources. Act as a product owner for relationship channels when needed, collaborating with other product owners to align strategies and resource allocation
  • Identify, interpret and capitalize on marketing trends in the non-profit industry Effectively manage the annual budget assigned to the department
  • Develop and maintain key metrics in departmental dashboard. Provide quarterly reporting and other presentations as requested by the Board of Directors, president/CEO, and the chief advancement officer


  • Work in coordination with the chief advancement officer, the director of development, and members of the development team to support fundraising and engagement goals
  • Lead and support the design, development and distribution of educational initiatives, communication and marketing campaigns, as well as the platforms that support them
  • Create a team environment where staff effectively explore and test innovative solutions to achieve objectives
  • Seek input on marketing trends and best practices from external industry professionals

Marketing tactics

  • Oversee and empower staff in developing and improving marketing strategies, technology, and CRM systems as it relates to overall marketing objectives
  • Identify and resource high quality live experiences including events, trips, simulations, and more to educate constituents on HOPE's model and inspire them to increase engagement
  • Monitor and advise efforts to share HOPE's story with new audiences, through media buying, public relations, and non-traditional promotional initiatives
  • Empower the team to collect the stories and media needed to narrow the gap between HOPE supporters and the men and women we serve. Encourage a balance of quality and volume of content, and prioritize the dignity of all people in the process

People management and leadership

  • Lead, manage and inspire team leaders and staff involved in copywriting, graphic design, trips, events, marketing, technology and other creative services
  • Demonstrate Christ-centered, servant leadership to support the spiritual development and professional growth of staff members
  • Lead in cultivating a healthy, uplifting team culture through vision-casting, team­ building, and mentorship
  • Identify needs for contract support or permanent staff and interns and collaborate with the chief advancement officer and human resources to facilitate process


  • Personal confession of Christian faith and commitment to the mission and vision of HOPE International
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, or related field is required; an advanced degree is preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of experience leading teams in a senior management marketing role
  • Strong understanding of modern marketing practices and experience applying these techniques to achieve business objectives
  • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communications plan and marketing program to advance the organization's goals
  • Strong interpersonal skills, maturity, and good judgment; capable of leading and communicating with a diverse range of individuals
  • Excellent judgment and creative problem-solving skills, including negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to balance multiple demands and deadlines with composure
  • Experience with marketing and CRM platforms such as Marketing Cloud and Salesforce International travel experience and cross-cultural skills preferred; occasional travel required
  • Understanding of the microfinance and development sectors as it relates to communication and engagement is of high value
