Advancement Communication Director

Turning Point USA - Phoenix, AZ

Position Title: Advancement Communications Director
Type: Full-Time, Salaried, Exempt
Level: Mid-Level
Reports to: Chief Advancement Officer

ABOUT THE POSITION
The Advancement Communications Director is an essential member of the Advancement team and is primarily responsible for overseeing Turning Point USA’s (TPUSA) donor-facing communications and providing strategic guidance to two of TPUSA’s special projects, the Professor Watchlist and the new alumni program. These efforts are focused on strengthening donor cultivation and retention and engaging alumni—ultimately helping TPUSA reach its revenue goals to further its mission and programs. The Advancement Communications Director will join an active and dynamic team that is implementing a three-year development plan to expand and deepen its fundraising efforts. This position will work closely with the Chief Advancement Officer to create and implement an integrated communications strategy and calendar.

This is an exciting new role for TPUSA—being the largest on-campus conservative youth organization, TPUSA has tens of thousands of donors and alumni whose support and belonging are essential to the TPUSA vision. The Advancement Communications Director will develop and execute a donor communications strategy, oversee the Advancement email marketing system, assist with social media strategy, guide the creation of non-direct mail collateral materials, oversee the launch of a robust alumni program, and guide the growth of Professor Watchlist. With three direct reports, the Advancement Communications Director will need to have excellent organizational leadership skills.

The Advancement Communications Director, while requiring strong editorial, writing, and messaging skills, must have experience working with databases and marketing systems, and be confident and adept in taking ownership of systems to bring cohesion with donor communications. With an appreciation for how essential integrated and multi-level communications are to the success of fundraising, this person will model a professional and service-minded demeanor. The successful candidate will be motivated by driving systems with an eye to messaging and branding.

The candidate must have a personal passion for the principles of freedom, fiscal responsibility, free markets, and limited government, as well as be able to advocate persuasively for these ideas. The qualities that this position requires are strong organizational/operational skills, excellent writing and editing, attention to detail, effective interpersonal and communication skills, and an achievement-oriented personality to drive new initiatives. The ideal candidate, though not necessary, will have previous involvement in libertarian or conservative organizations—or even be an alumni of TPUSA’s campus program.

Salary is commensurate with experience and includes a benefits package.
