Project Coordinator, Direct Response

Project Coordinator, Direct Response

Location: West Chester, PA, preferred; other locations considered for exceptional candidates

Type of position:  Full-time; entry-level

Compensation: Competitive salary and benefits commensurate with experience

American Philanthropic’s direct response group helps nonprofits acquire new donors and cultivate a deeper relationship with current supporters by planning, consulting on, and executing direct mail, digital outreach, and other integrated fundraising campaigns.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

As a Project Coordinator, Direct Response, you will be responsible for supporting American Philanthropic’s consultants in producing integrated fundraising engagements by assisting in a variety of duties including overall project management, coordinating tasks among internal and external stakeholders, ensuring deadlines are met, managing print and digital production, proofing design and copy, and maintaining quality control for each project. You will work closely with other members of the American Philanthropic staff and with outside contractors to ensure we meet a high standard of excellence in serving our clients. This position will report to the Senior Consultant, Direct Response, and will also work closely with all consultants across the company. This role will have minimal direct client contact, though this may grow over time.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Acquiring and developing a deep technical and strategic understanding of direct mail and digital fundraising techniques, strategies, and tactics;
  • Managing and overseeing the production of integrated fundraising campaigns from initiation to completion for multiple clients;
  • Managing and monitoring timelines, schedules, deadlines, for multiple concurrent direct response projects, each with individual tasks and milestones;
  • Completing tasks efficiently, accurately, and on time by taking ownership of each project assignment;
  • Interacting professionally by phone and email with internal and external partners including consultants, outside partners, designers, copywriters, list brokers, and printers;
  • Learning and perfecting working knowledge and experience with protocols related to direct mail, digital initiatives, design software, data analysis, and Salesforce among others;
  • Proofing and reviewing project deliverables such as appeal letters, emails, landing pages, and other campaign contents with an exceptional eye for detail; and
  • Providing other routine assistance related to the company’s direct response services as needed.

You do not need experience in each of these areas in order to apply but will need to become proficient over time through self-study, mentorship, and real-time experience. Ideally, you will be located near American Philanthropic’s West Chester office, but other locations may be considered for exceptional candidates. You should be willing to spend up to four days per month in travel, though it will typically be minimal.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Some professional experience, ideally 1–3 years in a direct response capacity, is preferred. Well-honed organizational skills, attention to detail, keen intelligence, and ability to shift quickly between tasks required; experience in project management of direct response, marketing and creative initiatives is preferred.

In addition, you should be able to demonstrate a strong commitment to the American Philanthropic mission of strengthening society’s “little platoons”—the independent mediating institutions and voluntary associations that constitute civil society and are vital to human flourishing. And you should be enthusiastic about the opportunity to join a specialized department that is helping to build a fast-growing consulting and services firm into a major force in the philanthropic sphere.

To excel and advance at American Philanthropic over time, you would need to demonstrate:

  • Strong communication and collegiality, as well as a capacity to build personal relationships of trust and respect both with clients and colleagues;
  • An exceptional ability to multi-task, effectively managing many competing deadlines and client priorities with a high degree of prudence and conscientiousness;
  • Excellent writing, analytical, and organizational skills, as demonstrated by consistently thorough and thoughtful execution of client work;
  • Capacity to take personal ownership of projects, accomplish tasks, and manage up to other colleagues;
  • A strong work ethic, humble manner, and demonstrated willingness to go above and beyond when necessary
  • An effective contribution to company culture, exhibiting an attitude both internally and externally that supports American Philanthropic’s development as a company that values practical wisdom, excellence, integrity, hard work, and conviviality.
