The Director of Marketing at American Philanthropic is primarily responsible for developing and executing integrated marketing campaigns and activities for American Philanthropic. This position will have visibility and responsibility for multiple initiatives that impact multiple business stakeholders and market segments. The Director will gain experience and have exposure to everything from digital marketing to product development to conference and event planning. This position will work closely with other members of the American Philanthropic staff to ensure high standards of excellence are met in executing marketing campaigns.


Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Managing the marketing group by overseeing and mentoring staff members and ensuring excellent planning and implementation of the marketing plan and initiatives;
  • Building and executing campaigns based on creative and inspirational ideas that align with company identity;
  • Creating messaging and positioning American Philanthropic in a way that aligns with it’s identity core values;
  • Collaborating with colleagues to deliver a rich content calendar leading the industry in thought leadership;
  • Executing events at all levels from conferences to webinars to engaging the public and moving them from prospects to qualified leads;
  • Supporting the thought leadership and success stories at American Philanthropic and its clients;
  • Captivating audiences with engaging presentations that drive identification and belonging with American Philanthropic;
  • Using metrics and key reports to monitor success of marketing campaigns, making tactical adjustments throughout to improve engagement;
  • Supporting the group’s growth and assisting with performance reviews, promotions, and hiring;
  • Working closely with the direct response group to collaborate on digital efforts as they overlap;
  • Staying updated with marketing best practices and continually investing in own professional growth;
  • Representing the firm at client meetings, conferences, seminars, and other events;
  • Acquiring an awareness of the business development process at American Philanthropic and supporting the company’s growth efforts as requested;
  • Assisting with the performance of other company-related tasks as needed;
  • Reporting regularly to the Managing Director; and
  • Making consistent positive contributions to a company culture that values practical wisdom, excellence, and integrity.


The ideal candidate will have 10+ years of professional marketing experience of which 3+ years of experience working at a similar level. Liberal arts background preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Salesforce CRM, Hubspot, and Wordpress is required. An exceptional candidate will demonstrate:

  • Personal interest in and alignment with the client base served by American Philanthropic, as well as facility with contemporary American political, cultural, sociological, and economic discourse, especially as those realms of thinking impinge upon civil society;
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and a capacity to build personal relationships of trust and respect both with clients and colleagues;
  • An exceptional ability to multi-task, organize, and manage multiple projects and deadlines with a high degree of prudence and conscientiousness;
  • Strong writing, analytical, and research skills;
  • Capacity to take personal ownership of projects, accomplish tasks, manage up to others, and make consistent progress on projects with minimal supervision;
  • A strong work ethic, humble manner, and willingness to go above and beyond when necessary in order to help our clients and the company succeed and grow; and
