The analyst within the research group at American Philanthropic is primarily responsible for providing thorough, accurate, polished, and well-aligned donor research to other consultants within the company, in support of American Philanthropic’s client engagements. This is primarily a behind-the-scenes role with limited direct client contact. The analyst works with other members of the American Philanthropic staff and with contractors to ensure that the firm continues to meet a high standard of excellence in serving its clients and fulfilling its obligations. Primary activities and responsibilities include the following.
Acquiring a deep technical and strategic understanding of the fundamentals of nonprofit development and American Philanthropic’s distinctive approach;
Mastering the use of Salesforce, iWave, Wealth Engine, Foundation Directory, Lexus Nexus, and basic Microsoft office programs;
Acquiring a thorough working knowledge of the landscape of organizations, funders, and key leaders within the landscape of American Philanthropic’s clients;
Coordinating research projects, deadlines, and assignments;
Communicating with consultants to understand the unique needs of each client;
Maintaining project management systems and information;
Helping to identify, train, and assess the ongoing quality and capacity of research contractors;
Monitoring contractor time and expenses as needed to ensure execution of research within budgetary guidelines;
Interacting professionally by phone and email with clients as occasionally required;
Assisting with office-related duties, as requested; and
Assisting with the performance of other company-related tasks as needed.
The position reports directly to the research group leader and may occasionally require occasional local and national travel for meetings, events, and trainings.
The ideal candidate will have some professional experience, preferably in a nonprofit setting. Liberal arts background preferred. An exceptional candidate will demonstrate:
