The Forgotten Foundations of Fundraising
Mastering the Art of the Ask
Thursday, September 2, 2021 at 4:00 pm Eastern time
What do you do if your donor hands you a check right when you walk in? What do you do if she says no when you ask? What if you just aren’t getting any meetings?
You’ve probably seen it at your nonprofit. Every year, major donors make up a growing portion of your overall revenue. Of course, this isn’t the case for everyone—especially if your development efforts are diversified—but the national trends are clear: fewer donors are giving more money. This means that major donor meetings are the most important thing you do as a fundraiser—like it or not. They are the bread and butter of your development program. There are plenty of ways to grow your organization’s revenue (and focusing exclusively on major gifts would be a mistake!), but improving your major donor program is low-hanging fruit to help your organization grow and increase its impact. Are you getting enough meetings? Are you getting meetings with the right people? How are they going? Is your portfolio revenue growing? There’s also a lot to consider with major donor meetings. You might send a lot of emails, but not get a lot of meetings. Or maybe you’re getting lots of meetings, but not closing a lot of gifts. If you want to strengthen your major donor engagement, join American Philanthropic and Philanthropy Daily for a free webinar on Thursday, September 2 at 4:00 pm Eastern time. Austin Detwiler will panel the conversation with Cecilia Diem and Sarah Moore Skogen to discuss the art of the ask and how you can make the best of your donor meetings—from scheduling it to closing the gift. Cecilia and Sarah will help you understand how to run a high-performing major donor program and will answer your questions about how best to engage major donors and ensure your donor meetings are successful.
