In fact, with her husband, Walter, who died in 2002, the Annenbergs were considered the region’s “most renowned and consistent benefactors for half a century.” The Annenberg Foundation, created in 1989, granted more than $70 million to Philadelphia organizations in 2007 alone. As president and chairman of the Annenberg Foundation, Leonore Annenberg issued substantial grants to the National Constitution Center, Thomas Jefferson University, The Curtis Institute of Music and Lankenau Hospital.
